Chabahar as Trade Hub

Iran and Afghanistan have reached a preliminary agreement to use Chabahar Port as a trade hub with customs procedures both pertaining to shipment costs and time of clearance.

The agreement was reached in a meeting between Masoud Karbasian, the director general of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration and his Afghan counterpart Ahmad Reshad Popal, Mehr News Agency reported. Chabahar is a seaport located in southeastern Iran, on the Gulf of Oman. It serves as Iran’s only oceanic port, and consists of two separate ports named Shahid Kalantari and Shahid Beheshti, each with five berths.
