David Knapp - Bringing new Life to Metalcasting History through Art

In 1962, Knapp began his foundry career in Pittsburgh, mastering the mechanics of manufacturing some of the largest steel castings in the world. After decades in shop operations, staying ahead of the wave of foundry closings, Knapp settled into business development and spent 15 years with a family owned iron foundry in Calera, Alabama.

Since his recent retirement, he is now devoting more time to visiting foundries to document their works on canvas with his unique and colorful painting style.

Knapp travels much of North America, combining his passions for foundry history and large industrial paintings. His work has now begun taking him to Europe, where one foundry has requested a 60 x 100 canvas of their metalcasting works.

Knapp currently resides in New Albany, Ohio as he continues to create this body of work preserving seldom seen images of what may eventually be a vanishing industry.
