Monjasa's tanker African Runner has delivered off Lome, Togo, where it has a 120,000dwt tanker that is used as floating storage, and will make 0.5pc fuel oil available across its west African supply locations.

The fuel will be compliant with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) 0.5pc sulphur cap, which comes into force on 1 January.

Monjasa has been delivering bunker fuel in west Africa since 2009. It has 10 tankers in the region, where it has said it is the largest marine fuel supplier by volume. Trading firm Trafigura has gained market share since the two companies parted ways in 2015.

Monjasa opened an office in Luanda, Angola, and deployed a 5,815dwt tanker that has been renamed Monjasa Chaser to Angola to expand its presence there.

"The west Africa bunker market has developed very positively over the past 10-15 years and today matches bunker destinations like Las Palmas or South Africa," said Monjasa chief executive Anders Ostergaard.

Fuel prices at bunkering locations off Namibia and Togo are normally at a premium to those at ports such as Las Palmas to the north and Cape Town and Durban to the south.
