MSC managing director:

Saba Steel Complex produces thin steel

In a measure designed to meet the needs of local customers, especially producers of pipes and profiles, the better part of production at Saba Steelmaking and Continuous Casting Plant now focuses on low-thickness products, Managing Director of Mobarakeh Steel Company (MSC) Bahram Sobhani, Ph.D., told a Management Committee meeting of the steel giant.
Saba Steel Complex produces thin steel

According to the correspondent of the Steel Newsletter, at the meeting the MSC chief recalled the importance of production involving data-x-items with higher added value and said, “I would like to thank the management and staff members of Saba Steel Complex for their efforts to increase the volume of sponge iron and thin sheets the company produces. Production of these data-x-items will help meet the local need for such products and eliminate the necessity for hard currency to be spent on imports from overseas.”
The managing director of the steel giant further said in light of the fact that a fifth casting machine of the complex will become operational in the near future, plans should be drawn up for loading and unloading mechanisms compatible with production and at the same time transport infrastructure that matches up to production capacity should be built up.
He went on to describe safety as a very important principle at Mobarakeh Steel Company and said for the untiring personnel of the company speed should not come at the expense of safety. “We should lay emphasis on compliance to the letter with safety, review of smart safety and fire extinguishing systems, and execution of safety in control rooms.”
Dr. Sobhani added that safety should take center stage in any advance plan worked out for in expansion projects.
He described human resources as the primary asset of the company and said efforts should be made to aptly replace those who leave the company through retirement and that productivity should be given a shot in the arm through personnel training.
The managing director of the giant steel company said in the annual general assembly of the company, the problem of those MSC retirees who had not been offered a raise when MSC was sold to the private sector was discussed. It was decided that the deputy director in charge of the Human Resources Department along with representatives of the stockholders and the Center for Retirees draw up a report to be voted on in the assembly. “When that happens we will be able to settle the problem of those retirees,” Dr. Sobhani said.
On the environment, he said Mobarakeh Steel Company is a production heavyweight and thus should care about the environment. As we pay attention to safety, the environment should sit atop the list of our priorities so that we can defend our environmental performance.
As for the presence of MSC in international events and markets, Dr. Sobhani said MSC seriously follows the question of benchmarking, on the one hand, to establish trade ties and pitch its products and promote its overall performance and machinery productivity on the other.
At the beginning of the meeting, the health, safety and environment chief of the company presented a report on the performance of different units of the steelmaker and the deputy director for operations and managers of different plants talked about production and quality indices.
Later the deputy directors talked about the performance of the company in the 30 days to July 22 and elaborated on issues raised in the reports by other MSC officials.
The Management Committee meets monthly to review the performance of the company and the challenges it faces and help unify the approaches the company managers adopt to different issues.
