Behzad Mohammadi, who is also the deputy oil minister for petrochemical affairs, added on Sunday if the country’s propylene output rises, greater attention would be required to be paid to increasing diversity in the production chain of propylene and its byproducts to promote the resilience of domestic production units, Shana reported.

Currently, he said, two refineries and six petrochemical complexes in Iran produce over 900,000 tons of propylene, which is consumed entirely domestically.

Mohammadi added that of the seven propylene production projects, three are being implemented in Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone, in the southwestern Iranian province of Khuzestan, and four in the southern province of Bushehr.

Describing propylene production as an attractive and important industry which is of great contribution to creating economic prosperity and boosting employment in downstream industrial sectors, he said the NPC supports projects to increase domestic propylene production and seeks to resolve problems.
