Turkey: Iron Ore Import Drops 11% in Aug’18

The tenth largest importer of Iron ore, Turkey has recorded decline in iron ore imports for the month of Aug’18. The imports recorded at 1.08 MnT in Aug'18, down 11% as against 1.22 MnT in July'18. The Y-o-Y imports witnessed a rise of 26% in Aug'18 as against 0.86 MnT in Aug'17.

Turkey’s crude steel production declines 8% in Aug’18

Turkey's crude steel production for Aug'18 witnessed at 3 MnT, down 8% on monthly basis as against 3.27 MnT in July'18. On yearly basis, the output reduced 6% as against Aug'17 production at 3.2 MnT.

Turkey’s iron ore imports for the duration Jan-Aug’18 stood at 7.16 MnT, down 4% as against same duration last year at 7.42 MnT.

The non-agglomerated ore (Lumps and Fines) witnessed a fall of 18% M-o-M in imports to 0.51 MnT in Aug'18 as against 0.62 MnT in July'18. However, Y-o-Y imports stood up by 46% in Aug'18 as against 0.35 MnT in Aug'17.

Agglomerated ore (pellets and concentrates) recorded Aug’18 imports at 0.56 MnT, down 7% M-o-M as against 0.6 MnT in July'18. The Y-o-Y import marked an increase of 10% as compared to Aug'17 imports at 0.51 MnT.

Iron ore imports from Brazil down 45% in Aug’18

Brazil continued to be the largest exporter of iron ore to Turkey in Aug'18 at 0.34 MnT, contributing 31% of total Turkey's import for the month. The imports witnessed a drop of 45% M-o-M as against 0.62 MnT a month before.

South Korea and Canada exports recorded at 0.17 MnT each for Aug’18 as against being no movement of exports reported a month before.
