New Danieli minimill in Europe

The agreement foresees the engineering, manufacturing, procurement and supply of the new minimill and auxiliary plants, which will be built in an area of about 50 hectares at the seaport of Eemshaven in the north of the Netherlands.

The meltshop, designed to produce 1.0 Mtpy, will be equipped with a 100-t EAF fed by ECS Endless Scrap Charging System, ladle furnace, fume treatment plant, and a 3-strand billet conticaster (with provision for a 4th strand for production increase up to 1.2 Mtpy).

The very compact rolling mill, fed by 160-mm square billets, will operate in hot charging mode with strong energy saving, and will produce up to 915,000 tpy of wirerod from 5.5 to 20 mm dia. The 16-passes mill -made by 16 cantilever stands- will deliver superior finishing/sizing products via TMB Twin-Module Block.

Danieli Automation will supply all electrical equipment including substation, advanced process control and equipment control systems, supervised by 3Q pulpits to guarantee a continuous and reliable production, minimizing the overall transformation costs. Special instrumentation and data analytics will support Industry 4.0 developments.

The minimill, which is expected to start production by second half of 2020, features the most environmental-friendly and energy saving solutions, to meet the stringent environmental standards of The Netherlands.

Thanks to this investment Van Merksteijn International will verticalize its production chain thus increasing the value of its overall wire product line.
