POSCO ICT (CEO Doo Whan Choi) will be exporting the airport distribution system of world’s best standard to the foreign market.
POSCO ICT has expressed that it will promote a business to extend the application of Baggage Handling System currently implemented to be operating at the Incheon Airport to the foreign airports. BHS (Baggage Handling System) is one of the critical systems at the airport as a comprehensive distribution management system to move up the travelers’ baggage to the airplane to board by reading the tags attached to the baggage.
POSCO ICT is planning to export to the countries with high demand of new airports such as China, Iran or Saudi Arabia by developing a system designed to be suitable for large scale airports such as Incheon International Airport as a solution to be appropriate for small & medium scale airports. The company has explained that it will be able to secure competitiveness for the advancement into overseas market such as drastically lowering the development period and the cost by making the existing system into a solution.
Recently, the airport users are at a trend of getting rapidly increased based on Asia region including China. Especially in case of China, the BHS related market is also expected to go through an accompanied growth since it is planning to secure about 2000 airports until year 2030 by constructing 100 airports each year after connecting all regions as an airport network according to “The Belt and Road Initiative". The market survey agencies have evaluated that the BHS related market reaches up to about 6.45 billion USD throughout the world (MarketsandMarkets 2015) and that the growth potentials are high such as getting increased by 7.8% on the average until year 2020.
POSCO ICT is operating a baggage handling system that reaches up to a total extension of 88km since Incheon International Airport had opened up in 2001. It is also participating as the organizer of consortium in the development of a baggage handling system to be applied on the second passenger terminal which is currently under construction.
The accuracy of baggage handling at the Incheon International Airport is an unparalleled standard compared to the leading airports of the world. According to the '2015 Baggage Report' published by the Society of International Telecommunication of Airline (SITA), the baggage handling system of Incheon Airport has recorded 0.7 in the number of loading failure cases to the airplane per 100,000 baggage (based on 2014) to record an accuracy of the world’s best standard. This is about 21 times more accurate than 14.6 which is the average all airports in the world and evaluated as taking part for the Incheon Airport to be appraised as the airport with the world’s best service.
