According to me-metals cited by Mes Press, The "Sustainable Economic Cooperation between Iran and China" meeting was held on Wednesday, June 17, attended by Dr. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf — Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly and Special Representative for China Affairs — Seyed Mohammad Atabak, the Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade, and a number of economic stakeholders.
In this meeting, Dr. Seyed Mostafa Faiz, CEO of the National Iranian Copper Industries Company (NICICO), highlighted China's position as the world's largest copper consumer and its role in the development of advanced industries, emphasizing the extensive potential for cooperation between the two countries across the copper value chain.
Noting that Iran possesses some of the richest copper belts in the Middle East, he stated that the convergence of rising global demand for copper, China’s need for a stable supply of this strategic metal, and Iran’s copper industry development plans has created a valuable opportunity to forge long-term, strategic partnerships.
Three strategic proposals
At this meeting, the CEO of the National Iranian Copper Industries Company (NICICO) put forward three strategic proposals, stating that such bilateral cooperation could include: participating in the development of small and medium-sized copper mines with a focus on transferring technical knowledge and expertise; establishing a copper value chain park aimed at developing advanced, export-oriented industries; and collaborating on the design, manufacturing, and supply of equipment required by the copper industry, with a focus on strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities.
Faiz expressed hope that cooperation between Iran and China in the copper industry would go beyond mere trade exchanges and lead to joint investments, technological development, and the creation of greater value-added within the production chain.
