Relying on the latest technology to reduce waste and energy consumption, Central Alborz Coal Washing Plant started its operations.
FST Co. sets record for top design, construction, protection of environment and energy efficiency

Applying modern science and significant contribution of young experts, Fakoor Sanat Tehran Engineering Company (FST Co.) launched a 500,000t coal washing plant, Central Alborz Coal Company, based on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract. The project came into operation by taking measures in the fields such as rendering engineering services, supplying materials and equipment, undertaking civil works, launching and installing , as well as a one-year control.
During his visit to Mazandaran province, President Hassan Rouhani opened the project through video conferencing. Mehdi Karbasian, Chairman of IMIDRO, Vajih Allah Jafari, CEO of IMPASCO (the project’s contractor), and a number of local officials attended the ceremony.

Full understanding of the details of the equipment specifications, as well as estimation of engineers and consultants of FST’s design unit,  led to the utilization of domestic equipment and optimization of energy consumption such as electricity, water, etc. in comparison with other plants. Consequently, it brought about a marked effect on the final price of Central Alborz Coal Washing Plant’s products. 70 percent of the main equipment of the plant are made in Iran and the rest were provided by high-ranking international brands.

The project studies were conducted in such a way that the plant is able to receive a variety of input to produce a high-quality output. As a result, the production line can separate ash from coal by using methods of GIC, as well as column and spiral flotation, thus the product has the lowest amount of ash.
FST Co. started the construction of the plant in spring 2014. The plant began trial production in early 2017.Likewise, a12 month period is considered as an exploitation period. The use of innovative technologies for environmental protection and energy efficiency in the plant has caused a 17% reduction in the produced wastewater compared to other plants. In addition, by engineering and technical measures, waste water and chemicals such as gas oil and pine oil will not enter into the environment, which is a reliable record.
Annual production capacity of Central Alborz Coal Washing Plant is 350,000t concentrate which will be supplied through 500,000t coal. In other words, with an input of 115t/h coal, 80t of 69% concentrate will be produced per hour. This production specification is unprecedented.
The produced coal concentrate is mainly used in the production of steel in blast furnaces. When the plant comes into operation, 60 people will be hired which is a great contribution to the development of the region and job creation.
The plant consumption is as follows:
1600 kWh electricity, 12 M³ water per hour, 1.2 liters of pine oil per hour and 35 liters of gas oil per hour which leads to the great energy efficiency and environmental protection. In addition, the amount of consumed magnetite by the plant is about 154 kg per hour. The consumed “Heavy Media” is 1 kg per tonne and consumed anionic and cationic flocculants are about 5.4 and 3 kg per hour, respectively.
