Mercuria eyes equity in African assets, new metals boss says

me-metals: Kostas Bintas, who started as Mercuria Energy Group’s new head of metals this year, says the trading house could take stakes in African projects as it looks to build out a large-scale metals business.

According to me-metals cited from mining.com, “You will see us very present in Africa and putting our money where our mouth is in respect of the Copperbelt,” he said during a panel at the Financial Times Africa Summit on Wednesday, referring to the mineral-rich region.

Better known in oil, natural gas and power, Mercuria returned to metals at scale this year, part of a wave of energy giants that are staffing up in the market to compete against the well established duo of Glencore Plc and Trafigura Group.
