This week, South Korea’s major EAF Steelmaker, Hyundai Steel has cut its purchase price for Japanese scrap amid low domestic market fundamentals in Korea as well as continued fall Japanese scrap price levels. Hyundai Steel has cut its bid by JPY 1000/MT (USD 9) against last week and its current bid for Japanese H2 stands at JPY 22,000/MT FOB (USD 212), in comparison to JPY 23,000/MT (USD 221) bid last week.

SteelMint in conversation with sources learned that Hyundai Steel has booked 45,000 MT HMS 1 scrap from US recently for Dec shipment.The deal was learned to have concluded at USD 244/MT, CFR basis. It is to be noted that with recent booking, bulk scrap bookings have come down by around USD 30. Prior to this in mid Sept'19, Hyundai Steel booked 45,000 HMS 1 scrap from US for Nov shipment at USD 275/MT, CFR basis.

Global ferrous scrap market witnessed a downward trend for yet another weeks in most major markets. Turkey witnessed further prices drop on a few deep-sea cargo bookings at lower prices. All South Asian markets witnessed fall in offers, with India seeing improvement in Buying activity. ‘Kanto Tetsugen’- Japan’s monthly ferrous scrap export tender for Sep’19 was concluded today (11th Sep’19) in the Kanto region. Total of 22,100 MT of H2 scrap was awarded at an average of JPY 24,849 /MT (USD 230), FAS, as compared to JPY 27,714/MT in Aug 2019, witnessing a sharp fall of JPY 2865/MT (USD 27) on a monthly basis, SteelMint learned from market sources.
