Diehl Metall Stiftung & Co. KG, Germany, has placed an order with SMS group GmbH a 25-MN heavy metal extrusion press line for tubes. On the new press line, Diehl will produce tubes from over 60 different copper alloys at its works in Röthenbach an der Pegnitz.
As system supplier, SMS group was able to convince Diehl of the benefits of a full-line supply. The scope of supply therefore includes not only the extrusion press with highly automated tool handling system, but also the complete runout system with tube separation unit and the corresponding quality testing facilities. The high-precision cutting to length of the semi-finished products is performed on a high-speed circular saw with automatic scrap disposal supplied by Hertwich Engineering GmbH, a company of SMS group.
Commissioning of the whole line is scheduled for the beginning of 2018.
Diehl already operates several SMS extrusion presses at its works in Röthenbach, and with the new line is continuing with the philosophy of high product quality, while maintaining high productivity.
