India: Odisha Iron Ore Production Up 11% in FY’19

Odisha - India's largest iron ore producing state recorded increase in iron ore production to 109.74 MnT, up by 11% for the fiscal year FY’19 as against 98.87 MnT in last fiscal FY'18, according to the provisional data of Odisha Govt. maintained by SteelMint.

The figures include the type of material - fines, lump, and concentrate.

Rungta Mines - India's largest private merchant miner produced 24.1 MnT iron ore in FY'19. The production recorded drop by 5% Y-o-Y against 25.3 MnT in FY’18.

Essel Mining has shown this year a very promising growth and depicted a sharp increase in iron ore production for the year at 8.64 MnT, up more than 2 times as compared to 3.7 MnT in FY'18. The miner resumed operations at its Jilling Langalota mines after it received permission from Supreme Court in Feb’18. The company owns mines in Odisha.

Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) - a state-owned miner has also achieved an increase in its iron ore production for FY’19 by 32% to 10.47 MnT as against 7.92 MnT in last fiscal year FY’18.

They are all set with iron ore production ramp-up plans for coming years to make up for expected supply disruption after March 2020 following lease expiry. OMC is planning to achieve 20 MnT iron ore output by FY'21. OMC has applied for enhancement of Environmental Clearance (EC) limits at its Daitari and Kurmitar mines and expects a positive outcome on the same by Oct'19.

EC limit at Daitari mines is proposed to be increased to 6 Mnt pa from current EC of 3 Mnt pa. On similar lines, EC limit at OMC's Kurmitar mines is proposed to be increased from current 2.4 MnT p.a. to 6 MnT p.a.

Serajuddin has recorded an iron ore production at 8.07MnT, down 11% against 9.03 MnT in FY’18. The miner has started operations at its pit which was closed for quite some time owing to the technical issue. Serajuddin has an EC limit of 15.15 MnT p.a.

Amongst captive miners, Tata Steel’s iron ore production stood at 13.09 MnT (Up 3%) and SAIL at 9.09 MnT (up 26%) for FY’19
