India Coking Coal Imports Rise by 5.35% in Feb’19; Imports from USA Fall By 19%

Indian metallurgical coal imports have increased by 5.35% to 4.5 million tonnes (MnT) in Feb’19, as compared to 4.27 MnT in Jan’19, as per the latest vessel lineup data compiled by CoalMint Research.

Moreover, on a year-on-year basis, the Feb’19 imports have risen by 12.72% against 3.99 MnT of imports recorded in Feb’18.

A country-wise break-up of the monthly import data reveals that the major proportion of the Indian coking coal import shipments continued to be originated from Australia, constituting the highest share of around 73%.

Also, Indian met coal imports from Australia rose by 6.7% to 3.30 MnT in Feb’19, against 3.10 MnT in Jan’19.

Following Australia, the imports from Canada and USA accounted for 9% and 6% shares respectively.

Notably, Indian coking coal imports from USA dropped by 19.1% to 0.27 MnT in Feb’19, against 0.34 MnT in Jan’19.
