According to me-metals cited from mining.com, A new, stainless steel blooming mill for top-quality products, including Inconel and SuperDuplex grades, is the second recent project agreement between Fagersta Stainless –part of Marcegaglia Group since 2023– and Danieli.
The new blooming mill, which will have a production capacity of 70,000 tpy of round bars and billets from 35 to 220 mm dia, will enrich the product mix and operational flexibility at the historic plant in Fagersta, Sweden, making it unique once again.
It will allow for three paths of operation. Ingots/blooms will be processed just by the breakdown mill into billets with possible delivery for immediate rolling at the existing MH wirerod mill without any storage/reheating step, obtaining the highest reduction rates for the finest grain size.
After the breakdown mill, roughed stock may be sent for additional rolling through a new reversing shiftable stand, or new reversing shiftable stand plus continuous mill, new in-line quenching, and then to a new complete finishing area.
The job will include the modernization and certifications of a breakdown mill stand that has been working at Fagersta plant since 1943, to operate in automatic mode.
Six new Danieli Centro Combustion low-consumption pit furnaces featuring hydrogen-ready regenerative burners capable of flameless operation and low NOx emissions, will guarantee best ingot/bloom reheating.
Smooth feedstock handling will be ensured by a single go-to-function automatic crane featuring smart video monitoring, supplied by Danieli Centro Cranes.
The plant will operate assisted by Danieli Automation process control systems and backed by several Danieli patents.
Plant startup is scheduled by end 2026.
