Today, we export gas from the West of the country to Iraq and Turkey and we can also export gas to Eastern countries,” Rouhani said on Monday, adding, “We have laid the gas pipeline to the point of Pakistani border.”

He said that some 17,000 villages all over the country have been connected to the country’s gas network, describing the network ‘unique’ in the world.

"The government will make the second leap in the petrochemical field by the end of this period, and we have planned a third leap with an export worth $37 billion,” Rouhani further noted.

In relevant remarks in late June, Deputy Oil Minister Hassan Montazer Torbati said that Iranian gas exports had 3.6 billion cubic meters increase in the past Iranian year (ended on March 19) compared with the volume in the year before.

Torbati made the announcement based on a report of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC).

Last year, Iran had a rise of 26% in its gas exports, he said.

The figure was a record in exports of Iran's natural gas, the official added.

He continued that the NIGC is to develop the gas sector through completion of the national gas projects in the current year.

Torbati stressed that the spread of coronavirus could not hinder gas development in the country.
