The plant includes two gas units, each with a generation capacity of 166 megawatts. The 159 MW steam unit will lift the plant's efficiency to 50%, prevent annual consumption of 250 million cubic meters of gas and reduce emission of greenhouse gasses, Energy Today website reported.

According to the public relations office of the Thermal Power Plants Holding Company, two more steam units of 159 MW are under construction and are expected to start operations next year.

The plant is located 25 km off South Pars Special Economic Zone in the vicinity of Bostanu village in southern Bushehr Province.

Some equipment for heat recovery steam generators has been imported while domestic manufactures have provided others.

Combined cycle power plant is more eco-friendly than conventional power stations as they emit less greenhouse gasses.

Iran's giant engineering and energy company Mapna is developing the plant.

Mapna is a group of Iranian companies involved in development and execution of thermal and renewable power plants, oil & gas, railway transportation and other industrial projects. It is also active overseas and has undertaken projects in Indonesia, Iraq, Syria and Oman.
