Capitol Eye fostering towards recycling Aluminium packing

Singapore’s first recycling drive for contact lens blisters is EYE FOR EARTH

On 3rd January’20 Capitol Optical, Singapore’s eyewear chain launched its Eye for Earth initiative which encourages contact lens users to recycle the blister packs.

Eye for Earth is Singapore’s first dedicated contact lens blisters recycling initiative, which aims to accumulate, sort and recycle contact lens packaging and is hugely supported by local industry partner SembWaste.

The contact lens packaging is made of sanitised aluminium and polypropylene, which is highly recyclable with negligible contamination due to the nature of its usage. This increases the chances of re-processing, especially when separated from other plastic recyclables.

The Eye for Earth recycling collection system provides consumers with a specially designed recycling bag to contain used blister packs and aluminium foil lids separately. Users who return bags filled with at least 60 blisters to any Capital Optical branch can claim an S$5 voucher from the eyewear chain

On contributing to positive environmental change, chief commercial officer Marcus Wong said: "Our Eye for Earth initiative minimises significant plastic waste and ensures that more contact lens packaging can be upcycled. We hope the initiative will transform the way contact lens packaging is discarded, and create a sense of ownership of the environment."
