More than 800,000 tons of commodities have been exported to Central Asian countries via railroad from Sarakhs Border Terminal in the northeastern Khorasan Razavi Province since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21), registering a 58% surge compared with the corresponding period of last year.

According to Director General of Khorasan Razavi Railroad Organization Mostafa Nassiri, cement accounted for 70% of the exported products, the news portal of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture reported.

The main export destination was Uzbekistan, as around 73% of exports from Khorasan Razavi headed to this neighboring country.

Other main destinations were Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.

Among the reasons for the rise in exports from Sarakhs, according to the official, are expansion of loading and unloading facilities and the increasing capacity of simultaneous loading, which has risen from 50 wagons to 250 wagons.

“With 701,000 tons, Khorasan Razavi Province ranked first among the country’s 31 provinces in exports via railroad during the eight-month period,” Nassiri said.
