“In the past our gas exports had to be suspended in the winter months. Today exports continue despite the cold winters,” he said before presenting the March 2020-21 fiscal budget in the Majlis, the Oil Ministry news agency Shana reported.

Last year, Iran's gas production from the giant South Pars Gas Field in the Persian Gulf, shared with Qatar, was more than the Arab neighbor’s output for the first time in history, he recalled, adding that in 2013, the Arab sheikhdom’s production from the same field was twice  Iran’s.

“We have made progress in the key sectors such as agriculture, water, energy, roads, communications and gas supply to rural areas,” he told the chamber.

With the launch of new phases in South Pars, domestic gas production has reached 850 million cubic meters a day of which 50 million cubic meters is exported.

Iraq, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic import gas from Iran.

It was announced in February that the country has reached self-sufficiency in gasoline production. According to the latest Oil Ministry data, domestic gasoline production has reached 110 million liters a day.

Rouhani told the MPs that his government has plans to launch several water and power projects at $2.5 billion before the fiscal year is out next March.
