Kahnuj Titanium Project to Resume after Two Decades Suspension

Construction of titanium concentrate plant with130 thousand tons annual production capacity and titanium slag plant with 70 thousand tons production capacity will be resumed this week.

Kahnuj titanium is one of the projects in priority of 11th government. Kahnuj titanium projects were started about 2 decades ago but there were no opportunity for their implementations. Now as a result of planning and identification of tender winners the implementation phase of these projects will be started.

Construction technology and financing were the main reasons of suspension of these projects. Technology will be provided by domestic and foreign consortiums and finance will be provided through bonds market.

Titanium in Kahnuj county, located in south of Kerman province near the Bandar Abbas, will be implemented by utilization of significant titanium reserves.

Based on the surveys, probable and proven reserves of the region are 400 million tons and 160 million tons respectively.

At the present, only titanium pilot project has activity there, which is an introduction for construction of main project.

Construction and operation of these projects not only put Iran among titanium producer countries but also will lead to social and economic growth of the region.
