Some managers of Rio Tinto during a meeting with chairman of the board of IMIDRO, after acquaintance with Iran’s aluminum chain projects, announced their readiness to cooperate in manufacturing, technology and services of aluminum chain industry in Iran.

Based on the defined outlook of aluminum sector by 2025, Iran will increase its aluminum ingot production capacity from 375 thousand to 1.5 million tonnes, which requires bauxite and aluminum powder as primary material for aluminum ingot production.

According to primary negotiations, Rio Tinto and Iran will have technical and engineering cooperation for bauxite supply, alumina production and alumina ingot production in order to transfer technical knowledge for construction of the above mentioned plants to Iran.

During the meeting, chairman of the board of IMIDRO said: Technical and economic cooperation and also technical knowledge transfer is one of approved tips of 11th government, so we stressed on this point. Also he announced new government policies in order to broaden ties with foreign countries.

Mehdi Karbasian was pleased with Rio Tinto’s cooperation with IMIDRO and knowledge transfer and added that conditions for cooperation with foreign countries is prepared ,Iran has mutual advantages and interests for expansion of ties specially in mines and mining industries sector .

Rio Tinto’s management team also met managers of Persian Gulf Special Economic Zone and visit facilities of exclusive jetty of P.G.S.E.Z for raw material import and export of mining industries products.

Managers of Rio Tinto were surprised by Iran’s progress in mine and mining industries and implementation of big industries in P.G.S.E.Z. They stressed: So far, we don’t have enough information about capabilities and potentials of Iranian firms in this sector.
