Iran has launched a direct refrigerated container shipping line with Oman for the first time to boost bilateral transport infrastructures.

“The shipping line will be used to transport refrigerated commodities such as fruits from Iran’s Jask Port to Omani ports,” said Abbas Abdolkhani, commercial councilor at the Iranian Embassy in Oman.

The refrigerated containers, carrying fruit, will sail on vessels to Oman to be delivered to Muscat central fruits and vegetables market.

Several refrigerated containers, carrying agricultural prdocuts such as fruits and vegetables, were loaded onto a landing craft in Jask Port on Saturday to head to Oman, according to Iran-Oman Chamber of Commerce.

Earlier, Iranian fruits were transited to Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to be later carried to Oman, according to the Iranian official.

The new line will bring to five the number of direct shipping lines between the two countries on either side of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.

Iran and Oman have been seeking to increae their trade ties as they enjoy warm political relations.

Back in April, a high-level Omani Fisheries official visited Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) to discuss further development of mutual trade exchanges.

Iran-Oman Joint Chamber of Commerce President Mohsen Zarrabi also said that annual trade volume between Tehran and Muscat has risen two-fold, surpassing one billion dollars.
