The report added that the Nakhlak Lead and Zinc Plant produced 2,142 tons of lead and zinc concentrates during the three-month period indicating 11 percent growth compared to the corresponding figure for the preceding year, imidro.gov.ir reported.

A sum of 14,433 tons of minerals also produced in Nakhlak Lead and Zinc Plant, which shows a six-percent decrease compared to related output of last year.

The report added that Angouran Lead and Zinc Complex extracted 193,355 tons of minerals during March 21-June 21.

Mahdiabad has zinc ore grades of between two and four percent, meaning 800,000 tons of zinc concentrate a year would supply between 16,000 and 32,000 tons of refined zinc to the 13.7 million ton global market annually.

The project had been under consideration since the 1990s but had faced multiple delays.

The mine, which is located in Iran’s central Yazd Province, holds above 150 million tons of definite reserves of zinc.
