Maziar Hosseini, the deputy roads and urban development minister for housing affairs, added that of the total number of houses, 65,000 are residential units, IRNA reported.

He listed major policies of the Roads and Urban Development Ministry in the field of housing as boosting sustainable housing construction, creating balance in the domestic housing market through meeting cumulative demand, increasing supply and demand simultaneously and promoting professional tenancy.

Hosseini noted that some of the projects to be implemented by the ministry are construction of 400,000 urban residential units, building and improving the quality of a total of 200,000 rural housing units, establishing an accrued market for trading construction materials, completing the Mehr Housing Project – a plan designed in 2007 to build over two million cheap housing units within five years – and renovating the country’s worn-out urban and rural fabric.

Under Mehr Housing Project, he said, more than 2.2 million housing units are expected to be constructed, of which 1.83 million units have been built and handed over to applicants.

A total of 112,312 Mehr housing units have been delivered to applicants since October 2018, Hosseini added.

“Construction of 368,644 units are yet to be completed.”
