Bangladesh: Scrap Import Bookings Likely to Strengthen Ahead Ramadan Holidays

In conversation with Bangladesh scrap importers & traders, SteelMint learned that mills are expected to turn active for scrap bookings ahead Ramadan holidays (which starts on 4th May). Mills are expected to begin with scrap restocking activities shortly.

SteelMint’s price assessment for containerized Shredded scrap from UK stands in the range of USD 345-350/MT, CFR Chittagong, which is mostly stable against the last week’s report.  However, offers from few scrap yards based in USA  and Canada were learned to quote offers higher by USD 5/MT, CFR at the moment.

Containerized HMS offers have seen slight uptick. UK origin HMS (80:20) is offered at USD 325/MT, CFR Chittagong levels while HMS 1 is being offered at USD 335-340/MT, CFR.

Offers for P&S scrap in containers is assessed at around USD 360/MT, CFR Chittagong.

Domestic scrap prices stable on W-o-W basis - Local melting scrap prices are being reported at around BDT 36,500/MT, ex-works inclusive of taxes.

Ship plate prices in Chittagong’s market have increased marginally by around BDT 200/MT on a weekly basis. Ship plates of 16 mm were traded at around BDT 44,200/MT (USD 524), ex-works Chittagong, for 12 mm plate at BDT 43,200/MT inclusive of local taxes.
