Iran’s Rail Exports Up by 140%

Managing Director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways Saeed Mohammadzadeh announced that the volume of commodities exported by the rail network of the country has witnessed a 140% increase in the current Iranian year (started on March 21, 2018), compared with the figures of last year.

Iran's this year rail exports has grown by 140 percent compared to figures from previous year, according to the Managing Director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways.

Mohammadzadeh made the remarks on Monday, attending a ceremony in the Northeastern city of Neyshabour where seven development projects were unveiled.

He said that railway's share in transit of commodities has amounted to 14%, and called for further contribution by the private sector.

In a related front, an Iranian official announced on Saturday that a significant rise has occurred in the volume of steel exported to Turkey through rail in the past two months, voicing hope that other data-x-items of exports to the neighboring country would be transported with trains.

Iran has exported some 19,000 tons of steel products – mainly rebars – to Turkey via railway within the past two months, while the data-x-items were previously transported to the neighboring state via road fleet.

According to Director General of Azarbaijan Railways General Bureau Shapour Arsalani, the shipments of steel to Turkey, loaded in the central provinces of Kashan and Isfahan, were carried to Turkey via Mahabad station using 439 cargo railcars.

“Iran aims to modify the methods of transporting big consignments to the neighboring and European countries in a bid to facilitate and pace such procedures,” he highlighted.

Arsalani noted that plans are high on the agenda to export other products such as sea salt, coal and tar via Tabriz-Turkey railway. Currently, Iran sends these data-x-items to foreign markets using trucks.
