Fangda Carbon’s Subsidiary Rongguang Carbon to Increase its Graphite Electrodes Capacity

According to sources, Fangda Carbon’s subsidiary Rongguang Carbon Co. Ltd is set to build a new graphite electrodes (GE) plant with a capacity of 50,000 tonnes per year.

The construction of the plant has been started in early November this year. The new project is located in Meishan city of Sichuan province.

The company’s existing GE plant is located in Chengdu and has a capacity of 20,000 tonnes. However, the company is likely to close its existing plant by 2020 with the initiation of its new plant’s full operations.

The company’s new plant may start its operations by June next year and the expected output during the year is about 10,000 tonnes.

This year the company’s output is expected to be around 18,000 tonnes, the same as last year and it focuses on the production of HP and UHP grade GE. Along with catering to domestic market, it also exports about 4,000 to 5,000 tonnes of GE.

Fangda Carbon is China’s one of the largest GE manufacturers with GE products of different grades and size. The company’s current electrodes capacity is 165,000 tonnes and is coming up with 50,000 tonnes of UHP grade plant in Sichuan province which will be operational by 2020. It has also entered into a joint venture with Shanghai Baosteel Chemical Co to build a 100,000 tonnes of graphite electrode project in Northwest China’s Gansu province.

With China’s government growing emphasis on EAF steel making facilities the demand for GE (key raw material for EAF) has also increased dramatically making various companies to subsequently make additions to their capacities.
