A 37-strong delegation from the EU is present at the conference in Tehran, which will last for two days.
The two sides’ familiarity with each other’s safety standards and regulations for the quality of food is among the event’s objectives.
The joint conference will also discuss ways to remove obstacles hampering the trade of food and agricultural products.
The EU delegation is also slated to meet with high-ranking officials of Iran’s Agricultural Jihad Ministry later today.
Iran and the EU members have signed several agricultural agreements since the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a nuclear deal between Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany), was reached in 2015.
On May 8, the US president pulled his country out of the nuclear deal. Following the US exit, Iran and the remaining parties, including the EU, launched talks to save the accord.
Trump on August 6 signed an executive order re-imposing many sanctions on Iran, three months after pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal.
