Mineral Exploitation Creates 4,300 jobs

A total of 533 permits were issued for mineral exploitation during the nine months to Dec. 21, 2017, creating 4,302 jobs, 76.6% more compared with last year’s corresponding period, the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade announced.

Iran is home to around 10,000 mines, only 6,000 of which are actively being operated. The country’s mineral reserves stand at 60 billion tons, close to 40 billion tons of which are proven, IRNA reported. The ministry also noted that the issuance of permits for mineral exploration during the nine-month period witnessed a 27.8% rise year-on-year, as 702 such permits were issued. A total of 372 permits for mineral discovery were issued during the same period. Iran is ranked 14th globally in terms of mineral reserves and 10th in terms of variety.
