TATA Steel relies on Danieli Service for slab caster realignment

Complete alignment evaluation and correction for three casters operating at Jamshedpur facilities (India)
TATA Steel relies on Danieli Service for slab caster realignment

At the Jamshedpur complex, Tata Steel has been operating three slab casters supplied by Danieli Davy Distington 25 years ago, producing 4 Mtpy of slabs in a wide range of quality steel grades.

Now, Tata Steel has contracted Danieli Service to validate the geometric reliability of these casters and to give assurance about their continued service, while making the necessary adjustments to improve product quality. To do this a complete laser alignment check and on-site rectification will be performed.

Correct alignment of caster bow and segment rolls is essential not only to ensure good product quality and productivity, but also to avoid major problems associated with cracks and other slab defects.

The inspection and corrections are planned to be completed in 2018, according to the plant shutdown schedule.
