1939 : Construction of an aluminium plant in Ranshofen by Vereinigte Aluminiumwerke AG Berlin (VAW)

1948 : The aluminium plant in Ranshofen becomes state-owned

1950 : Construction and start-up of a rolling and extrusion plant

1979 : Construction of a secondary casthouse in Ranshofen; begin of aluminium scrap recycling

1989 : Construction of the Aluminerie Alouette Inc. smelter in Sept Iles, Quebec, Canada (AMAG interest of 20 %); production launched in 1992

1996 : AMAG privatisation

2003 : Enlargement of Alouette smelter output from 243,000 t/y to 550,000 t/y (AMAG share 20 %); completed mid-2005

AMAG 2014  :  LARGE SCALE INVESTMENT IN RANSHOFEN

 

 

220 Million EURO have been invested in a new hot-rolling-mill, a new plate-centre, a new slab-casting and a distribution centre for finished products. 200 new jobs were provided with this investment.

Hot Rolling Mill : The new hot rolling mill started operation in September 2014  / Size:  Length: over 470 m / Width: over 100 m /  Floor space: 22,000 m² / Max. width of plate: 2,300 mm / Max. gauge of plate: 152.4 mm (6")

Plate production-center : All lines are in operating state  : Horizontal-heat treatment-line / Annealing furnace / Stretcher

Slab-casting : Production started as scheduled in spring 2015.

Distribution Center : Built in record-time, the distribution centre started operation in November 2012.

AMAG to build Europe’s most modern aluminium rolling mill at Ranshofen

  • Investment : Over EUR 300 million for new cold-rolling mill and upgrading equipment, start-up 2017
  • Capacity : To be doubled to over 300,000 tons
  • Technology : High-tech facilities make AMAG a global leader
  • Products : Full-range supplier for special products: automotive, aircraft, sporting equipment, electronic goods, construction, mechanical engineering and packaging industries
  • Employment : Creation of some 250 additional jobs

The successful commencement of the start-up of the new hot-rolling mill is followed by the next milestone : AMAG will use an investment volume of over EUR 300 million  for constructing a cold-rolling mill and upgrading equipment at the Ranshofen location. With its new facilities, AMAG is going to expand the range of high-strength aluminium sheet and strip products to include  widths up to a maximum of 2,200 mm.

Pegasus 2015

AMAG is one of Austria’s top investors - as convincingly demonstrated by this years’ Pegasus awards, the Province of Upper Austria’s most prestigious business award. CEO Helmut Wieser and his two fellow Management Board members Dr. Helmut Kaufmann and Gerald Mayer accepted the coveted Pegasus statuette in gold in the Investor Excellence category (“Investitionskaiser”) on behalf of AMAG. The award was presented on June 11, 2015 during the Gala Night of Business held at the Brucknerhaus in Linz.

Location-Corona 2015

AMAG received the bronze “Location-Corona 2015“ award from the Federation of Austrian Industries in recognition of their outstanding support for the local economy. The award recognizes companies who have invested either money or created or retained jobs in Upper Austria between 2012 and 2014.

AMAG has been on a steady growth trajectory for the last 20 years. The start-up of a new hot rolling mill in September 2014 and the planned construction of a new cold rolling mill have added to the momentum.

Quality Seal of Workplace Health Promotion

For the third time in a row, AMAG has been awarded the highly coveted “Quality Seal of Workplace Health Promotion” for the years 2015-2017 by the Austrian Network for Workplace Health Promotion (ÖNBGF).

 

 

 

 

ASRA-Sustainability Award 2014

AMAG was selected as the winner of the Austrian Sustainability Reporting Award 2014 (ASRA) in the category “GRI-First Report". The AMAG Sustainability Report convinced the jury by means of its impressive presentation of the major topics (Strategic Sustainability Management, Compliance, Innovation, Energy Efficiency and Recycling) with forward thinking and concrete goals. With the title “Adding value through appreciation”, the report describes the economical, ecological and social action achievements of AMAG in their fiscal year 2013.

 

 

CDP-Award 2013

AMAG received the “Best New Participant“ award at the 2013 CDP annual conference.

The Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) is an internationally active organization. With the use of standardized questionnaires, the CDP generates climate-related company data such as emissions, climate change risk factors as well as strategies for risk reduction, and holds the largest global collection of self-reported climate change data.                                                                        

AMAG received an entrance score of 53 points (out of a possible 100) for the 2013 CDP reporting period – a commendable score that, according to the CDP reports, is rarely achieved by companies reporting for the first time.

 

 

 

CSR-Corona 2013

The Federation of Austrian Industries awards this distinction to those companies who distinguish themselves through their achievements in social, cultural, or ecological areas.

Boeing Performance Excellence Award

Pegasus 2012

It was a bronze award for AMAG at Pegasus, the most prestigious business competition in Austria. The decision of the jury was based, to a large degree, on the outstanding strategic positioning of AMAG, the extremely positive financial results of 2011, as well as the forward-thinking design of the ownership structure and the expansion of the production facility, which is already in progress.

 

 

Vienna Stock Exchange Award 2012

The second place in the Vienna Stock Exchange Award 2012 in the category Small & Mid-Cap went to AMAG Austria Metall AG. The Small & Mid-Cap Award recognizes those companies that stand out in the following areas of the capital market : financial reporting, investor relations, corporate strategy and leadership, corporate governance and sustainability along with market related factors.

AMAG ROLLING

AMAG rolling is a globally active manufacturer of high quality, rolled aluminium products.
 

The importance of aluminium in all areas of modern, industrial production, transport and other applications is steadily rising. AMAG rolling has established a position as a specialist among the rolling mill companies and by means of constant improvements in already high quality standards, is able to provide products, which meet the strictest requirements.


The majority of the production is exported to the AMAG rolling's main markets in Europe and overseas, where it is represented by sales companies or agents. Such proximity to the customer facilitates quick and flexible reactions. 

 

AMAG CASTING

AMAG casting is one of Europe's largest, single location aluminium scrap recyclers.
Approx. 80,000 t cast alloys and 176,000 t wrought alloys leave the production facilities annually.

The focal point of company activities is formed by the customer. In fact, the production of customer advantages constitutes the corporate claim.

 

AMAG METAL

AMAG metal is the metal trading company of the AMAG Group, manages the metals flows within the group and thus represents the interface to the raw materials markets.
 

Main tasks:

  • Raw material supply (alumina, aluminium) to group companies.
  • Management of AMAG's interest in the aluminium smelter Alouette.
  • Sale of aluminium products (low-profile sows, ingots) from Aluminerie Alouette.
  • Risk management to minimize effects of price fluctuations on the metals (LME) and currency markets.

 

Aluminium Austria Metall (Alouette)

AMAG holds an investment in the joint venture aluminium electrolysis Aluminerie Alouette Inc., located in Sept Iles (Quebec/Canada).

Aluminium Austria Metall (Québec) Inc., a 100% subsidiary of AMAG is the 20% shareholder of Aluminerie Alouette Inc.
