Water Management at Mobarakeh Steel Co. A National Model

me-metals: Mobarakeh Steel has turned water scarcity into an opportunity. Through smart investment and responsible planning, the company has tripled production while cutting water use dramatically.

According to me-metals cited by Steel Vision, Water consumption per tonne of steel dropped from over 10 cubic meters to about 2.2 cubic meters. More than half of the water used now comes from treated urban wastewater. In 2025, a seawater transfer project supplied 40 percent of the company's water needs in just five months.

According to the head of the Zayandeh Rud basin authority, Mobarakeh Steel has reduced its withdrawal from the river significantly while increasing output. The official also noted that the company aims to bring its withdrawal from Zayandeh Rud to zero.
