JSC Ural Steel contracts Danieli for vacuum degasser revamping

Existing VD productivity will be increased to 1.8 Mtpy

JSC Ural Steel, part of the Metalloinvest Group, has awarded Danieli Centro Met the order to revamp the existing VD operating in Novotroitsk, Russia.

This revamping will lead JSC Ural Steel to increase the productivity of its existing Twin-Tank, Twin-Cover VD, from 1.1 to 1.8 Mtpy of special steels, including rail and wheel grades.

Scope of supply includes a new, full steam ejector vacuum pump that will be installed parallel to the existing one, allowing both VD tanks to operate independently and simultaneously.

A new dust separator system will separate the VD dust, thereby decreasing the need to clean the vacuum pump. A new hydraulic suction line switch will make it possible to operate both VD tanks using either the existing or new vacuum pump.

All this will result in an increased productivity, operational flexibility and plant availability.

The startup for the revamped VD is scheduled for the end of 2017.
