Inauguration of Advanced Coal Washing Plant in Central Alborz

Iran’s most advanced coal washing plant was inaugurated by Iranian President through a video conference. Hassan Rouhani travels to Mazandaran Province to inaugurate several projects.

Production capacity of the plant is 350 thousand tons which will be fed by annually 500 thousand tons crude coal.

During the inauguration ceremony, chairman of the board of IMIDRO said: “new coal washing plant of Central Alborz in Savadkouh county of Mazandaran province doesn’t produce industrial waste also produces about 17 percent waste less than other plants.

New plant was constructed due to Coal gangue issue .The project was started in early months of 2014 and pilot production started in fall 2016, Mehdi Karbasian said.

The project were constructed by two domestic companies (Fakour Sanat as contractor and Kavoshgaran as consultant), 70% of the plant’s required facilities are domestically manufactured, he added.

As recent mining explorations added 20 million tons to proven coal reserves of Central Alborz, coal reserves of the region increased to 140 million tones. Exploration area in the region will expand to 3 thousand square kilometers, Karbasian continued.

He noted the Kordabad coking project and said: “Regarding the environmental issues, Kordabad project faced problem but due to cooperation with a German consultant the project will be operated”.

Karbasian noted JCPOA effects on mining sector and expressed that before lifting the sanctions against Iran, even foreign consultants didn’t come to negotiate in Iran but now, foreign companies and contractors started their activities in Iran.
