“The US discriminatory and restrictive measures imposed against Iran’s maritime industry are clear violation of principles and objectives of the Convention of International Maritime Organization,” Rastad said in a meeting with Secretary General of International Maritime Organization (IMO) Kitack Lim on Friday.

He noted that not only the US imposition of sanctions on maritime safety and security will affect the Middle East region, but it will also jeopardize the security of maritime industry in the entire world.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) and International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) are missioned to safeguard and promote maritime safety in the entire world, he said, adding, “So, we expect these two organizations to take effective steps to solve problems facing Iranian maritime industry.”

In a relevant development in early September, Iranian Ambassador to Britain Hamid Baeedinejad cautioned the IMO of the US seizure of the country’s oil tanker, Adrian Darya, after its attempts to blackmail the vessel's captain.

Baeedinejad wrote on his twitter page that Iranian Embassy in London has warned the IMO and its members against the US threats against the Iranian tanker.

The Iranian diplomat said that the US has threatened ports not to provide services to 'Adrian Darya' or ex-Grace 1 in violation of maritime regulations.

He further said that the US threats endanger the international maritime treaties as well as the security of international seas.

The Indian captain of Iranian supertanker, Adrian Darya (formerly known as Grace 1), received sanctions threat after turned down a several-million-dollar US offer in return for steering the vessel to a country that would impound it on behalf of the United States, western media reported on Wednesday.
