New Timeline for Tehran-North Freeway Completion

The construction of Section-1 of Tehran-North Freeway has made 95.5% progress and the project is expected to come on stream by the end of summer (Sept. 22), according to the newly-appointed head of Mostazafan Foundation.

“Right now, the substructure for the 34-kilometer-long project has been paved. The installation of equipment, ventilation systems and jet fans is what remains of the project,” Parvis Fattah was also quoted as saying by the news portal of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

The Tehran-North Freeway mega project consists of four phases spanning 121 km in total.

Sections 2 and 3 pass through mountainous terrain, are not easily accessible and will take longer to complete.

Section-4, which is 20 kilometers long and connects Marzanabad in Kelardasht District to Chalous (both in Mazandaran), was inaugurated in March 2014.

Mostazafan Foundation, the largest charity and the second-largest socioeconomic conglomerate, is overseeing the project.

Tehran-North Freeway is perhaps one of the most notorious projects in Iran, as it is about 30 years in the making.
