Incoming LaGuardia flights delayed: Update

Arriving flights continue to see delays, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), with most flights running an average of an hour and a half behind as of 12:15pm ET.

The ground stop was put in effect this morning as the partial government shutdown goes into its 34th day.

Departing flights out of LaGuardia are seeing delays of about an hour, mostly due to wind conditions.

Other airports in the region, such as Newark International Airport in New Jersey and Philadelphia International Airport in Pennsylvania were seeing significant delays.

LaGuardia is the 16th busiest airport among 792 US airports, with about 28mn passengers traveling through the airport each month. Delta Air Lines is the top carrier at LaGuardia, with about 21.08pc of the market share. American Airlines has the second largest market share, with 19.11pc.

The US Atlantic coast jet fuel spot market did not react to the partial grounding at LaGuardia.

The White House said the president has been briefed on the delays and will continue to monitor the situation.
