Indian Ferro Manganese prices raises for the first time in CY19. The prices have seen a long trend of decline until this week. Prices in Durgapur increased by INR 1000/MT and for Raipur the prices increased by INR 500/MT.

Lowered pellet buying interest from Chinese mills and decline in P-DRI prices have turned sentiments bearish in domestic pellet market. Despite the reduction in pellet offers by eastern and central India based pellet makers, trade activities have remained dull.

SteelMint in conversation with market participants learned that Chinese mills have lowered inquiries for pellets and high grade ore amid shrinking steel margins. Indian participants were expecting market sentiments to remain optimistic after Chinese Lunar New Year holidays, however the scenario has not remained similar now.

According to the market participants report to SteelMint , Raipur (central India) based pellet manufacturers are likely to increase offers to INR 8,000/MT as against end of last week’s assessment of INR 7,000/MT (ex-Raipur, GST extra). The revised offers are likely to be effective from tomorrow (12 Feb’19).

According to the customs data maintained with SteelMint , Indian pellet exports have marked rise of 46% to 1.02 MnT in Jan'19 as against 0.70 MnT in Dec'18. On yearly basis, the exports increased 59% as compared to 0.64 MnT in Jan'18.
