Turkish Investors Ink Contracts to Enjoy Economic Opportunities in Iran’s Kish Island

A Turkish company signed an agreement to make a $100 million investment to build a large residential-recreational complex in the Persian Gulf island of Kish, in Southern Iran.

As per an agreement signed by the managing director of Kish Free Zone Organization (KFZO) and managers of “a Turkish company” active in the tourism industry this week, the construction operation of the complex will start soon in a 10-hectares area.

The complex will include 1,000 bedrooms equipped with advanced residential facilities for guests, grand reception halls, meeting rooms, a number of restaurants, sports grounds, a waterpark, swimming pools and amusement parks.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Qolam Hossein Mozaffari, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Kish Free Trade Zone Organization (KFTZO), said this huge tourist complex will attract many domestic and foreign visitors to the coral island.

Mozaffari, earlier in March, said that the Persian Gulf island is prepared to host major events both in regional and international scales, saying “With the proper environment, coastlines, transport and recreational infrastructures, tourist attractions and suitable sports amenities, Kish Island enjoys high capacity for hosting regional and international events.”

The KFTZO is in charge of handling the infrastructure affairs, development and economic growth, creating job opportunities, attracting local and foreign investors, regulating the good and labor market and ultimately utilizing the Island’s tourist potentials.

Over the past couple of decades, Kish has become a beach resort where visitors can swim, shop and sample a laid-back and relatively liberated local lifestyle. It is home to free-trade-zone status, with ever-growing hotels, shopping centers, apartment blocks and retail complexes.

Late in April, Iraqi Ambassador to Tehran Saad Abdul Wahab Jawad Qandil said that Baghdad is eager to have more economic cooperation with Iran specially on the island of Kish, calling for direct flights between his country and the island.

“Kish Island has valuable capabilities for investment and if direct flights between Kish and Iraqi cities be launched, more tourists from Iraq will travel to the Kish Island for fun, travel and investment,” Qandil said on April 28 in a meeting with Mozaffari.
