Iran Crude Steel Production Registers 7% Growth in Q1 CY19

Iran produced a total of 62.23 MnT of crude steel during the first three months of 2019, up 7.1% compared with the corresponding period of 2018, the latest report released by the World Steel Association shows.

Iran's steel production has registered 19.7% Y-o-Y growth in Mar'19 as compared to Mar'18. Iran’s March steel output reached 2.23 MnT.

The 17% increase in the iron ore production was a prominent factor behind the increased crude steel production of Iran. A total of 45.48 MnT of iron ore concentrate was produced in Iran in the last fiscal year (ended 20 Mar'19) registering a 17% growth compared with the previous year.

The increased iron ore production has also resulted in increased pellet output, the pellet output hit 41.32 MnT during the Persian year 2019. With 11.7 MnT, Golgohar was reported to be the largest producer of the pellet for the Persian Year 2019 followed by Mobarakeh Steel Company at 7.45 MnT.

Iran aims to expand its crude steel capacity to 55 MnT pa by 2025.
