CSP steel mill in Brazil started operation of its first blast furnace after its blow-in ceremony on June 10 (local time).
CSP located in Ceara in northeast Brazil is a steel mill jointly established by POSCO (20% stake), Dongkuk Steel (30% stake) and Vale (50% stake). The world's largest iron ore producer Vale supplies iron ore while POSCO is responsible for technology support and operation. Dongkuk Steel is in charge of procurement, logistics and general affairs.
CSP, which is located in the Export Processing Zone (ZPE) in the Pecem industrial and port complex (CIPP) in Brazil, can make use of the infrastructure provided by the Ceara state government, in a location that is convenient for the loading and unloading of raw materials and products, and shipments. CSP, which began construction in July 2012 and has now become operational, is expected to produce 3 million tons of molten iron annually in the 3800㎥ blast furnace for the purpose of making slabs.
CSP steel mill is expected to increase slab production in Brazil by 48% and GDP of Ceara by 12%, while at the same time creating 16,000 jobs including 2800 staff of its own and 1200 staff through outsourcing companies. It is likely to contribute to boosting the economy in the country and developing a better relationship between Korea and Brazil.
