NMDC- India's largest iron ore producer registered 28% decline in production for the month of Aug'19 at 1.41 MnT as against 1.95 MnT a month ago. On yearly basis too, production fell by 4% as compared to 1.46 MnT in Aug’18. The production has witnessed a fall amid heavy rains & monsoons and prolonged closure at Donimalai mines. Out of the total production of 1.41 MnT in Aug, 0.79 MnT were from Chhattisgarh mines (down 32% M-o-M), while remaining 0.62 MnT (down 22%) stood from Karnataka mines.

Following decline in global iron ore fines price, Indian low grade iron ore fines export prices have also witnessed downturn. Odisha based manufacturer is heard to have concluded low grade iron ore (Fe 57%) fines deal for 50,000 MT. The material booked is for Sep loading and the deal is concluded at around USD 55/MT, CFR China. The freight charges from east coast to China is around USD 13-15/MT. However few indications for low grade fines export price were also heard at below USD 55/MT, CFR China.

World's second largest exporter of iron ore - Brazil has recorded iron ore export volumes at 30.11 MnT in Aug'19, down 12% as compared to July'19 exports at 34.27 MnT, according to trade statistics released by Brazil customs. On yearly basis, exports dropped 15% as against 35.62 MnT in Aug'18. The data compiled is for 22 days.
