Iran is the second leading producer of lead and zinc in the Middle East and North Africa region after Turkey, according to a report recently published by the US Geological Survey on Iran’s nonfuel minerals.

Mehdiabad Lead, Zinc and Barite Mining Complex produced 283,868 tons of barite during the first three months of the current Iranian year (started March 20), which indicates a 74% rise compared with the corresponding period of last year, Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization reported on its website.
